According to reports, Giannis Antetokounmpo has made it clear that he won’t extend his contract with the Milwaukee Bucks unless they prioritize winning above all other factors.
After successfully re-signing Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez while also exchanging champions, the Bucks have proven their point. However, the Greek god, Giannis Antetokounmpo, remains unsatisfied and expressed his desire to not stay on the same team for two decades without winning another championship.
It’s possible that the Bucks will have to part ways with Antetokounmpo next summer if he chooses not to renew his contract. The Lakers and Knicks are the top contenders for a trade. It’s worth noting that other star players have also shown interest in those teams. However, Milwaukee will be in charge of the decision-making at that point.
It’s safe to say that if Antetokounmpo had expressed his desire to leave, the waiting list for teams wanting him on their roster would surely be a lengthy one. The Miami Heat, with Pat Riley at the helm, are not expected to sit out on the opportunity. Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors have put measures in place to ensure continued success even after Curry hangs up his jersey. When it comes to Toronto, they have previously allowed Antetokounmpo to work out the numbers and make the decisions. As for the playoffs, it is very possible that the Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns, and Los Angeles Clippers will all earn a spot.
At present, the chances of the 2021 NBA champions retaining their strength and competing among the top eastern teams are high. Additionally, Antetokounmpo is expected to set a new salary record with the Milwaukee Bucks next summer. However, the Deer Herd club may face challenges as Lopez, Holliday and Middleton are aging and losing value. If Giannis’ future with the team is uncertain, he may decide to leave. The Lakers seem to be his preferred team, but LeBron James’ contract will expire next year, and it’s unlikely that he’ll use his Player Option to play alongside his son. On the other hand, the Knicks would be a better fit for Antetokounmpo. It would be a dream come true for him to take over LeBron James and lead the Yellow-Purple team to become the NBA’s most successful franchise.
